10 Things I Love About Utah

Hey everyone!

So I'm going a different direction than my usual topics and I want to talk about Utah.

I don't know about you, but I'm tired of people hating on Utah. Maybe since I'm a native Utahn, I'm a bit biased, but I happen to really like Utah. So that's what this post is about: 10 things I love about Utah.

This is in Provo Canyon, right by Bridal Veil Falls.

1. The mountains

I'm totally a mountains girl. I'd much rather go to the mountains than the beach. And I really do love the mountains in Utah. Since we're in the middle of the Rockies, we've got all sorts of options for hiking, biking, and anything mountain related. I love that I can drive anywhere and within an hour, I can be at an awesome hiking trail. And the sights I've seen are breathtaking.

2. The national parks

I seriously don't think any other state has as many national parks as Utah does. And they're all absolutely gorgeous. From Zion's National Park to the Ashley National Forest, there's something for everyone who wants to enjoy the outdoors.

3. The people

I know you might think I'm crazy, but I do love the people in Utah. Yeah, there are some judgmental jerks, but there are also some of the most wonderful and sweetest people that I've met.

4. Food places everywhere

This one is more related to Provo, but I love that there are so many options for eating out, both with franchises and local. I really need to take advantage more of local restaurants.

Comic-Con in Salt Lake is the best!

5. The nerd/geek culture

Let's face it, a lot of Utah people are so nerdy. Our Comic-Con is the 2nd largest Comic-Con in the US. I feel like half the time I'm surrounded by people who love being nerds and embrace it. It's awesome.

6. The landscape

This one is similar to the mountains and national parks, but what I mean is that Utah has so many different landscapes: We have the salt flats in the west, high deserts in the east, green hills in the north, red deserts in the south, and valleys and mountains in the center. No matter where you go, the landscape is going to be unique and unusual, and I love it.

7. The religion

This one is ambivalent. Sometimes I get annoyed that many people here are Mormon, but other times I like it. I like the fact that I'm often surrounded by people that hold the same values I do. This doesn't mean there aren't people that think differently from me. And I've come across my fair share of people who have their own ideas about what is doctrine and try to force it on others. But overall, I do like living near the Mormon capital.

8. The temples

The Salt Lake temple is probably my favorite temple.
Okay, this one is related to religion, but I really like that I can drive within an hour and find an LDS temple. These buildings are all so beautiful, and it's amazing that there are so many of them in Utah.

9. The crazy weather

This one is a love/hate relationship, but I do love that Utah has unpredictable weather. It could be raining, sunny, and snowy all in one day. The main thing I really like is Utah has different types of weather, which can produce some beautiful views in the sky. It's incredible!

10. Fry sauce!!

Yes, I love fry sauce and I'm always very happy when a restaurant has it!

So there you have it. I really do love Utah, and I hope you guys find something on this list you agree with. What do you think? What's your favorite thing about Utah?
